WHELEN NIGHT AND KIDS BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT BIG SUCCESS!

After two weeks of rain outs it was time to get back to some racing action at the Highbanks Speedway! A big night of racing and events went on at the track including Whelen Night at the Races, Buddy's Home Furnishing Night, Ben E. Keith $1 Hot Dog Night and the BAck To School Night all wrapped up into one! Whelen Engineering is the Title sponsor for the Whelen All American Series in which all of our divisions at the track compete for national points. National points are looking good for the Salina Drivers. Division II points lead is held by Chris Hawkins and Keith Campbell is also in a position to make the top five. Division III points chaser Kyle Davis should slide up into the top five after this past weekends run and Tyler Hopson and AJ Smith are inching their way towards the top ten. Division IV's top spot is held by Kevin lacy and Nathan Campbell and Brennon Lacy are holding their spots in the top ten and knocking hard on the door to bust into the top five. Its important to know that drivers in the top five get to go to the National Banquet in Charlotte North Carolina in December. Good luck to these guys as we head into the last four weeks of points racing.

New winners also emerged this weekend at the Highbanks. In the Pure Stock division Nathan Campbell make his way back to Victory Lane making it his fourth win of the season. Campbell started 9th and worked his way up quick after an early lap crash that took several cars out of the race. This victory will help him cut his way back towards the top of the national points chases.

The Grand National class seen a first time winner in the 2016 season but not first time winner at the track. Its been a while since Roy Long was in Victory Lane but he held on to win over a late race charge by Kyle Davis and another motor that let lose right after crossing the finish line. Great job Roy and welcome back to the winners circle.

Speaking of Winners Circle, Its been a long time coming for this weeks A Modified winner Jared Russell. This was a big win for Jared and the whole family as well. You see Jared's son Tyson has never seen his daddy win a race and just one month ago Tyson was laying in ICU after a near drowning event that almost took his life. Had it not be for the Grace of God he would not have been here to see his daddy win. The first thing Jared said when he pulled back into the pit was that he wanted to see his son. Some wins will always mean so much more that others and for me this win is one of the biggest I have been able to witness.

The B Modified Class has became one of the toughest classes at the Highbanks to win. With so many different drivers winning and the largest car counts of any class it has quickly become the class to watch. This past weekend Dylan Cantwell, the classes youngest drivers, drove his way to his second victory of the 2016 season. After the races I gave Dylan a hat provided to the winners in each division of the Whelen Night and you would of thought it was $100. This is all part of being a NASCAR Home Track and a part of the Whelen All American Series and the NASCAR family.

Thanks to all of our sponsors who support us each and every week here at the track and if you get a chance please take time to thank each of them personally.
