Football Coaches Set to Faceoff in “Mayes County Coaches’ Cup” Grudge Race Sept. 9th

From the gridiron to the dirt track, all five Mayes County High Schools will be represented by a member of their respective coaching staff in a grudge race, dubbed the “Mayes County Coaches’ Cup,” on September 9th at Salina Highbanks Speedway. The coaches will drive Pure Stock racecars provided by drivers at the Highbanks during intermission of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series points racing program.

Competitors will include:
Adair – Head Coach Rob Gilstrap
Chouteau – Head Coach (Boys Basketball) Travis Wheeler
Locust Grove – Head Coach Matt Hennesy
Pryor – Head Coach Jeramy Branchcomb
Salina – Head Coach Matt Williams

The prize will be the “Coaches’ Cup” trophy and the winning team will receive a catered meal prior to a football game of choice courtesy of Salina Highbanks Speedway. Football teams and cheerleaders in uniform will be admitted free to the event, and all students will enjoy a discounted admission ticket rate of just $5. The Salina High School Band will also perform the National Anthem during opening ceremonies.

Racing will begin at 7:00 with heat races for weekly competitors. The “Mayes County Coaches’ Cup” race will take place at intermission. The screens in the Finish Line Restaurant will also be locked on the Oklahoma vs. Ohio State College Football Game on Fox.
